A glimpse of Gen Zs’ rainy day routines

by RepublicAsia

WHEN the rain pours down, reconditioning the sun-baked soil, drenching the pavements, and decorating the glass windows, Gen Zs find unique ways to embrace these drizzly days. Instead of viewing the downpour as a spoilsport, it becomes a scenery for adapting, creativity, or connection of all sorts.

From immersing in binge-worthy television series, seeking new hobbies, organizing personal treasures, or simply going about one’s day—rainy days can be redefined far from dreariness.

Several Gen Zs shared with RepublicAsia how they spent their rainy days at home. Who knows? You might get an idea from them, too!

Despite the rainfall, academic responsibilities must continue. Students face their books and computers, confronting the usual man vs. self discourse in their studies.

No weather-related adversity can hinder their progress, as long as they find “mini-breaks” during their academic pursuits.

Fellow Gen Z Reigne Yzabel Regulacion, 21, shared, “It would be either of the three: if it’s finals week, then for sure acads and study (even if I just want to lie down HAHAHA).”

“Second, if it’s a sort of a regular day, then I would re-organize my study area [and] closet because listening to the rain (plus a good playlist) while cleaning is highly therapeutic,” she added.

To finish her routine, she continued, “Lastly, if I have nothing else to do then I would make a cup of matcha latte, cozy up in bed, and watch Friends. It really varies and depends on the kind of week that “rainy day” comes!”

When the world seems to move slower underneath the heavy-looking gray clouds, drizzling our little lives with gentle showers, mundane activities exude a subtle charm. These everyday routines cast a gentle reminder that sometimes, the liveliest moments are found in the simplicity of being.

Angelina Louise Labajo, 22,  narrated, “The way I spend my days on rainy days is nothing extravagant. Wala akong fino-follow [na] certain schedule of activities, just the usual routine I do pag walang pasok, nasa bahay lang doing the chores and stuff.”

But if she has extra time, Labajo said she opted to watch several anime series, hone her skills in graphic design, and discover a new hobby,

“Lucky enough, naka-bakasyon ako ngayon kung kailan tag-ulan [and] ang hirap din lumabas-labas kung malakas ang ulan hindi ba? If ever nasa school naman ako, baka inaya ko mga classmates ko kumain ng lugaw o kaya ramen noodles,” she added.

Work continues

Many students have a lot on their plates besides studies. Several of them participate in the working field, providing themselves and their peers with a new perspective on dealing with life. With responsibilities on their mind, they strive to find even the smallest comforts to keep a fighting spirit in life’s dynamic plot.

Gen Z working student Angel Guaño, 21, recalled, “During rainy days, as a working student, my time is precious and often split between classes and work. When the weather turns gloomy, I take comfort in catching up on much-needed sleep, which helps me recharge both physically and mentally.”

On other days, she said she enjoys a warm cup of coffee while focusing on her academic tasks.

“I also love to play music from my favorite artists to inspire and energize me,” shared Guaño.

She also reflected deeply on these days, saying, “These moments of serenity amidst my busy schedule are essential for maintaining balance and productivity.”
