CHAGEE, China’s popular tea chain, will soon open physical stores in select shopping malls in the Philippines in August, offering customers a modern take on traditional teas.
The first three CHAGEE branches in the country will be launched at SM North EDSA in Quezon City, Robinsons Galleria in Ortigas Center, and Venice Grand Canal in Taguig.
But before the global tea sensation officially opens its doors, Filipino tea lovers have the chance to get a sip of its best-selling drink, the BO·YA Jasmine Green Milk Tea, for free!
How? By taking on fitness challenges at CHAGEE’s 7-Day Power Up Challenge pop-up event at SM North EDSA, The Block.
The RepublicAsia team was invited to the opening of the wellness-themed pop-up event on Monday, July 7, along with other young local celebrities and content creators.
The 7-Day Power Up Challenge is CHAGEE’s first-ever on-ground event in the market, which features a variety of fun and interactive activities that not only bring together milk tea lovers but also promote wellness.
What are the activities, prizes
The Gen Z team arrived at the venue at 10 a.m. and lined up at the registration area to get their event passport, whose design was inspired by CHAGEE’s milk tea cup.
The passport requires the holder to collect all the stamps from each of the pop-up’s wellness activities, ranging from giant bowling to mini golf. The holder will only get a stamp from a CHAGEE Marshall if they passed the game.
Upon entering the pop-up event, the RepublicAsia team was greeted by the “Bowl with CHAGEE” game, which featured three giant bowling pins and a big black inflatable ball. For this game, the player only had to hit one of the three pins within 60 seconds to earn the stamp.
While it didn’t make the team sweat, it was a good warm-up for them to shift focus to the challenges.
Next up: the “Tea-rrific Hoops,” featuring an arcade basketball game. To win the challenge, the team had to shoot only two balls into the CHAGEE ring within 30 seconds.
While it looked simple from a distance, the team was humbled when the second ball hit the rim just as the shot clock expired. Nonetheless, it was still a successful first attempt at the basketball game!
But what’s more challenging was the “Sip, Swing, Score” game, a.k.a. CHAGEE’s mini golf. The instruction was simple: the player had to shoot one out of three balls into the hole with the golf club to pass the game.
This time, there was no time limit, but it was a bit of pressure for the team, as other attendees watched them shoot the ball into the hole. The only thing the team can say is that it was not easy, and it felt like the world had shown mercy on them just so they could finish the game on their first try.
The last game was the team’s favorite: the “Tea Gashapon Treasure!” For this one, they only had to insert a coin, to be given by the CHAGEE Marshall, into the vending machine to dispense a capsule containing the item they could claim at the CHAGEE counter.
To make the event memorable, the international tea chain also put up a photo booth, where attendees could take home two copies of their photos.
Once all the stamps were collected, the team headed to the counter to claim the free CHAGEE scented sachet from the “Tea Gashapon Treasure” and, of course, the free BO·YA Jasmine Green Milk Tea.
Enjoying the exquisitely made BO·YA Jasmine Green Milk Tea, which was not overly sweet, was the highlight of the RepublicAsia team’s overall experience at the pop-up event.
Attendees can also win exclusive merchandise, including a CHAGEE tote bag.
The 7-Day Power Up Challenge pop-up event will run until Sunday, July 13.
