Harry Potter’s popularity
Many Filipino millennials and Gen Zs have followed the story of Harry Potter, either through the films or the book series, since childhood.
Based on the fantasy novel series of the same name written by J. K. Rowling, the “Harry Potter” film series follows Harry’s journey to discovering the truth about himself, his family, and the evil that haunts the wizarding world as he attends the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He is accompanied by his two close friends whom he meets in Hogwarts: Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.
Actor Daniel Radcliffe portrays Harry, Emma Watson as Hermione, and Rupert Grint as Ron. Other cast members include Bonnie Wright as Ginny Weasley, Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy, Matthew Lewis as Neville Longbottom, and Alan Rickman as Severus Snape.
The popular franchise has spawned numerous adaptations, including spin-off prequels such as “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” as well as video games, stage productions, and television series.
Streaming platform HBO earlier gave a first look at the forthcoming “Harry Potter” television series, featuring child actor Dominic McLaughlin as Harry. The new series’ exact premiere date has yet to be announced, but HBO has confirmed that production has begun.
