FILIPINO talent continues to be recognized internationally as four P-pop groups—SB19, BINI, G22, and BGYO—were nominated at the upcoming BreakTudo Awards 2024 in Brazil.
The Brazil-based awards ceremony released its first partial ranking, showing the four Filipino acts as one of the Top 5 most voted nominees in their respective categories.
SB19—composed of Pablo, Stell, Josh, Ken, and Justin—earned two nominations: “Men’s International Group” and “International Video of the Year.”
Based on the partial ranking, SB19 holds the second spot in the “Men’s International Group” category, following the Japanese dance and vocal group BE:FIRST. K-pop groups Stray Kids, TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT), and SEVENTEEN ranked third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
However, SB19 snatched the top spot for the “International Video of the Year” category with “MOONLIGHT.”
P-pop girl group BINI’s “Cherry On Top” also got nominated in the same category, ranking second. It is followed by Nayeon’s “ABCD,” Ariana Grande’s “We Can’t Be Friends,” and Camila Cabello’s “I LUV IT.”
BINI—also called the Filipino Nation’s Girl Group composed of Jhoanna, Aiah, Maloi, Mikha, Colet, Sheena, Gwen, and Stacey—is also nominated in the “International Breakthrough Artist” category, clinching first place. They compete against K-pop girl groups BABYMONSTER and KISS OF LIFE, Chappell Roan, and Benson Boone.
Meanwhile, G22’s “I Hate Boys” and BGYO’s “Patintero” got nominated in the “Music by New International Artist” category. They are up against Juanjo Bona’s “Lo que no ves de mí,” 4EVE’s “Hot 2 Hot,” and Savannah Clarke’s “Bad Things.”
According to the award-giving body, ranking may change depending on the public’s participation. Fans can vote through BreakTudo Awards 2024’s website, until October 10.
Celebrating milestones
Winners have not been determined yet but the P-pop groups and their fans deserve to celebrate these international nominations.
G22—composed of AJ, Alfea, and Jaz—shared their nomination in the “Music by New International Artist” category on X (formerly Twitter), saying it is “another win” for the group.
Star Music, the record label of BINI and BGYO, encouraged BLOOMs and ACEs to continue voting for their favorite P-pop idols.
SB19, on the other hand, has yet to announce their nominations at the BreakTudo Awards 2024, but their fans, collectively known as A’TIN, have already been rallying support for the boy group.
