3 people charged over Liam Payne’s death

by Gaby Agbulos

THE DEATH of singer and former One Direction member, Liam Payne, broke the hearts of many. At just 31 years old, fans say he was gone too soon.

He was first reported to have died on October 16 following a fall from the balcony of the CasaSur Hotel in Argentina but recently, new information has come to light.

Last November 6, Wednesday, Payne’s body was flown back to the UK to be released to his family. His autopsy showed that he suffered from internal and external bleeding, as well as multiple traumatic injuries sustained from the fall.

His body, BBC News reports, was originally held in Argentina for further toxicology and laboratory tests.

Three detained by police

During the initial investigation of Payne’s hotel room, authorities were shocked with what they found: substances such as drugs and alcohol openly displayed, as well as objects and furniture destroyed.

His toxicology report, states Variety Magazine, also showed that there were traces of cocaine, alcohol, and a prescription antidepressant in his system. In particular, “pink cocaine” – a drug made up of MDMA, ketamine, and methamphetamine – was found in his body.

Since then, three people have been charged in relation to Payne’s death.

As per the National Criminal and Correctional Persecutor’s Office, the first was expected to accompany Payne and has been charged with the abandonment of a person followed by death as well as the supply and facilitation of drugs.’

News site La Nación has reported that this person was identified as an acquaintance of Payne. This acquaintance had been posing as his manager and has since been identified as a businessman who’d abandoned Payne given that he did not tell Payne’s family about his struggles with drug abuse.

Two hospital employees have also been detained, as per Variety, and have been accused of supplying Payne with narcotics that were found in his system.

No names or further information has since been released on the detainees.

Variety also states that eight homes have since been raided in relation to the three detained, with one location being the room of one of the women Payne was said to have been with before his death.

This follows after reports showing that Payne had been with two prostitutes before he died. According to La Nación, the two women, aged 25, met Payne through an escort website.

They drank alcohol with him before getting into an argument regarding their payment, as Payne did not want to pay them,  before leaving about an hour before Payne’s fall.

The police found nine cell phones, three computers, two hard drives, as well as a jar of marijuana following this search.
