#ModernLove: Father’s Love

by RepublicAsia

IN a world where a mother’s love is getting the hype, there’s the father’s love that always stays low-key and is given only a little attention. But what about the father who eats alone at night, wipes their tears behind closed doors, gives you everything, and makes you feel secure? It’s about time to appreciate the love we got from our father.

Have you watched TikTok videos about the proud moments of test passers announcing the good news to their parents? In those videos, you can see how proud the parents can be of their child, and some of them even cried upon hearing the news. If you check the comments, some users would mention the father, ‘look at the father’s reaction.’ Only then, the user will check and notice that the father is quietly listening on the side.

Fathers rarely show their emotions and tend to endure most of the time. This is one of the reasons why the love of fathers was only appreciated when asked about it. Fathers are the head of the family, they need to be strong and not show pain to prevent others from worrying about them. There’s a trend recently on TikTok about ‘seeing your father cry,’ that makes every user relate to the feeling of how heart-wrenching it can be to see your father cry and anyone in that situation doesn’t know what to do.

A Father Showing His Love

Love is felt, Not Seen

Nerilyn, 21, said that her father is not showy but she felt his love in many ways.“My father is not a showy type but we can feel his love in a way that when we need something, he always does everything. When I say everything, he always finds ways to provide… to give us our necessities, and we don’t even need to ask twice to him to give that…”

Remelyn, 22, same with Nerilyn, her father does not show that he loves her but her father makes her felt love. “Hindi nya inapaakitang mahal niya ako pero inaparamdam niya sa akin, sa aming magkakapatid. Walang favoritism sa kanya, lahat kami paborito…”

Tough Love

Nerilyn added describing her father’s love as tough love, “…and although my father gives us the tough kind of love, he only do that para matuto kami sa sarili naming paa and para matuto kaming solusyunan yung mga problema namin without seeking help from them.”

Sacrifice

Remelyn also mentioned her father’s sacrifice, “…‘pag nanghihingi kami ng pera kahit maubusan s’ya okay lang, kahit bente na lang pera nya alaanan pa niya para sa amin. Tipong dapat akainin niya pero asubo n’ya sa amin ‘yon.”

Unforgettable Memories With Father

His Resolve

Nerilyn stated “I was [supposed to] be adopted when I was three years old but my father refuse, and my father said that “kaya n’ya akong buhayin, kaya n’ya akong palakihin so hindi n’ya ako ipapa-adopt. And although I can’t really remember that memory, it is one thing that I will never forget kasi it makes me feel na kamahal-mahal ako for them not to give me away. So yung paninindigan ng tatay ko na ‘wag akong ibigay don sa tita ko para ampunin and panininindigan n’ya na kaya n’ya akong buhayin. That’s one thing my father did na I will never forget.”

His Care

Father’s love is knowing that you have someone who will stand for you against other people. You have someone to rely on. You have someone who protects you. You have someone who cares for you. You have someone who would do everything for you. Father’s love is not as warm as the mother’s love but it is the love that makes you feel safe and secured.
