Ed Sheeran to perform in Manila in 2024

by Joanna Deala

FILIPINO fans of Ed Sheeran will be making memories for themselves, as the English singer-songwriter will be bringing his “+ – = ÷ x Tour (pronounced as Mathematics Tour)” to the country.

Local promoter Ovation Productions announced on X that Sheeran will be performing at the SMDC Festival Grounds in Parañaque on March 9, 2024.

He will be joined by English singer-songwriter Calum Scott, who is known for his songs “You Are The Reason” and “Dancing On My Own,” as a special guest.

Tickets will go on sale on October 26 at 12 noon via Ovation Tickets and SM Tickets’ websites.

The “Mathematics Tour” kicked off in 2022 in Dublin, Ireland.

Aside from the Philippines, Sheeran will also be performing in Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and India for the Asian leg of the tour.

The upcoming concert will be the third time the Grammy-winning singer will meet and perform for his Filipino fans, collectively known as Sheerios.

His last visit to the country was in 2018 for his “Divide” tour in Pasay City. The concert was initially slated in 2017, but it was rescheduled because Sheeran had a bicycle injury.

The singer-songwriter also brought his “Multiply” tour to Manila in 2015.

Fans’ reactions

Filipino Sheerios expressed excitement about Sheeran’s return to the country, five years after his last visit.

However, many fans are suggesting to replace the venue as they share some of their “bad” concert experiences in the location.

Some of them want Sheeran’s concert to be held at the Philippine Arena instead.

‘Autumn Variations’

The Manila leg announcement of the “Mathematics Tour” came a month after Sheeran dropped his latest album called, “Autumn Variations.”

Released on September 29, the singer’s seventh studio album is composed of 14 tracks, namely, “Magical,” “England,” “Amazing,” “Plastic Bag,” “Blue,” “American Town,” “That’s On Me,” “Page,” “Midnight,” “Spring,” “Punchline,” “When Will I Be Alright,” “The Day I Was Born,” and “Head > Heels.”

“Autumn Variations” is the first album he released under his own label, Gingerbread Man Records, which he launched in 2015.

In an Instagram video on August 25, Sheeran shared that the album is inspired by composer Edward Elgar’s “Enigma Variations,” where he made 14 songs that he dedicated to his 14 friends.

Sheeran also dedicated “Autumn Variations” to his 14 friends and based it on the autumn season.
