THE Shearline – the streak of rainclouds from a mix of cold and hot winds – is affecting the eastern corridor of Southern Luzon and Visayas today, January 19, 2023.

So expect moderate to heavy rains over the Bicol region, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Aklan, Capiz, and Northern Samar.

Meanwhile, the Northeast Monsoon will continue to dump moderate to heavy rains over Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Aurora.

The amihan rain band will extend to Laguna and Oriental Mindoro today.

Pagasa warned that there will likely be flooding and landslides especially in areas which are likely to have one when the amount of rainfall is heavy.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will get occasional light rains, but overall the weather will be fair.

The rest of the country will get sporadic rain showers or thunderstorms, too. But yeah, still generally fair.

Hot, hot west

Windy.com, a Czech-based weather aggregator of climate data, said temperature levels are likely to go up the western section of Luzon, some parts of central Luzon and central Mindanao.

By 3pm today, mercury can rise up to 34°C in Urdaneta, San Carlos City and Sta. Barbara in Pangasinan, and Guimba in Nueva Ecija.

Other towns and cities in Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and Abra may get the blistering 30-33°C.

Down south, in North Cotabato and South Cotabato including General Santos City, as well the Davao region and Agusan Del Norte may reach 30°C levels too.

Yesterday, the mercury spiked in Zamboanga City at 34.3°C around 1pm. Cotabato City had 33.8°C.

San Jose in Occidental Mindoro, Sinait in Ilocos Sur, Davao City, Dipolog City, Butuan City and Laoag Cities get 32°C.

So, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!!
