Designer Chris Nick stuns at BYS Fashion Week closing

by Gaby Agbulos

LAST October 6th, cosmetics brand BYS held its annual fashion week at White Space Makati, delivering a night full of glam and amazing performances to its attendees.

Chock-full performances from the likes of SB19 and appearances from beloved celebrities like Nadine Lustre, Marina Summers, and Sofia Andres were seen all throughout the night.

During this night, BYS invited the likes of Ha.Mu, Antonina, Rafa Worldwide, and Randolf to showcase their collections which Vogue Philippines describes as filled with dreamlike maximalism, vibrant shadows, and sleek, striking textures.

The highlight of the night, though, was definitely designer Chris Nick’s closing collection, which was definitely a noir dream come to life.

A feat to be celebrated

This is by no means Nick’s first rodeo. He’s been a big name in the fashion industry since 2019, and even made his debut during the Los Angeles Fashion Week last year.

Known for his sleek designs, often using black and white as his main color palettes, Nick’s designs exude class and elegance.

As seen in a past interview with Tatler Asia, he’s stated that he often draws inspiration from designers Tom Ford and Yves Saint Laurent, as well as old Hollywood fashion, and Studio 54, a testament to the charm of disco in the 70s.

“I like to merge elegance and sensuality and it reflects on me as a person in real life; I’m a big fan of the past,” he’d stated back during LA Fashion Week.

It’s no surprise then that the likes of Marina Summers, Sofia Andres, Max Collins, Coleen Garcia Crawford, Issa Pressman, and LA Aguinaldo walked the runway with poise alongside him at the end of the show, donning his iconic designs.

During this event, his runway looks greatly showcased his unique style, filled with a variety of different silhouettes adorned with bows and sequins galore. Some of his other designs also had bold statements printed on them, with lines like “I’m an angel” printed on them, adding yet another detail of eccentricity to his works.

“Ribbons are my thing – a fun fact about my ribbons is people think it’s sweet, but it’s actually a little bit kinky,” Nick said about the addition of this detail, explaining his fascination with the use of something as delicate as ribbons to tie someone up.

Some words from the man himself

For Nick, inspiration is everywhere. He finds himself constantly finding inspiration from his life, as well as the things that he’s loved ever since he was young.

“Now that I’m older, I’m just able to create this world,” he added.

The future looks bright for this 23-year-old designer, and we can only expect that great things will continue to come his way in the years to come.
