Catriona Gray calls out historical blogger for fake news

by Izel Abanilla

MISS Universe Catriona Gray quickly called out a Facebook blogger for false reports that she will join a GMA Films period movie and prematurely called her Mrs.Milby.

Gray branded the Page as “fake news peddler.”

“Grabe naman this page, palaging fake news peddler,” Gray commented. “Wala akong part sa movie na to.”

The administrator of the page, whose identity is not being disclosed, apologized for the inaccurate posting. However, it did not take down the post, which already has 2,500 shares as of this writing.

Fake news post of “Pinoy History”

Over the weekend, “Pinoy History” posted a teaser: “Papaano kung hindi namatay si Rizal?”

It said that a film is in the works about the life of the national hero with Kapuso star Dingdong Dantes as lead actor and Gray as Josephine Bracken.

The post too was accompanied by a photo of Gray donning a traditional baro’t saya with a caption, “Catriona Gray as Josephine Bracken?”

What created more buzz is the part where the beauty queen was referred to as Catriona Gray-Milby when she is still, in fact, unmarried.

“Makakasama daw sa pelikula si Catriona Gray-Milby na gagampanan ang karakter ni Josephine Bracken,” it said.

Catriona slams fake news

Aside from the grossly inaccurate reporting on her participation in the film, Gray was also miffed at the attribution to her name.

“Name ko po, Catriona Gray – hindi pa ako married. Kaloka,” she finished with a smile emoji.

The post came out just after Gray, 29, and Milby, 38, announced their engagement. Netizens too were quick to slam the post in defense of the former beauty titlist.

In one of the photos of their engagement, both of them were holding a cup of coffee with romantic labels. Milby’s cup said “Mr. Milby” while Gray’s cup said “Future Mrs. Milby.”

Pinoy History says sorry, admits fake news

Because of Gray’s counter statement, the social media blogger issued an apology to Gray by referencing her name correctly and admitting that what they said was, in fact, “not true.”

“An apology to Miss Catriona Elisa Ragas Will Magnayon Gray. (Soon Mrs.Milby),” it said.

“The News about Catriona being part of the movie ‘What if Jose Rizal Did Not Die’ is not true,” it added.

It further shared that their “Show Business Department” held a meeting regarding the issue and sincerely apologized to Gray, writer Suzzette Doctorlero and GMA Films.

“We will ensure the verification and authenticity of the news before publishing it,” it said.

As a result, its showbiz department is said to be suspended for posting.

It did not say who are the members of its “Show Business Department” – assuming they have one.
