“I have decided to continue my studies at Ateneo de Manila and play for the Ateneo men’s basketball team,” said Bahay, the country’s top high school talent and reigning CESAFI High School MVP from Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu.

Earlier this month, UP officials confirmed Bahay’s “decommitment,” saying that the highly anticipated incoming rookie had a change of heart.

According to Bahay, the key reason for his decision to play for Ateneo was having the chance to continue his Jesuit education and formation.

Bahay studied elementary and high school at SHS-ADC, winning titles at each level.

“I believe that sustaining my Jesuit education will help unlock and sharpen my potential to the fullest, both on and off the court,” he said.

“Growing up and experiencing Cura Personalis at SHS-ADC, I am confident that their vision and holistic approach will contribute to my growth and maturity as a student, athlete, and person.”

“I look forward to joining Coach Tab, the team, and the rest of the Ateneo community soon. ‘Dugay nako nagdamgo nga makabot ko sa UAAP, ug pirting lipaya nako nga makaduwa ko para sa blue and white.’” Bahay said.

Bahay shared his excitement on wearing the Blue Eagle jersey and playing a key role in Ateneo’s return to the top of the UAAP peak after missing out on a second consecutive championship in Season 86.

After learning of Bahay’s change of heart early in January, Ateneo Head Coach Tab Baldwin and Team Manager Epok Quimpo rushed to Cebu to meet with him.

“We’re really happy that Jared opted to come to Ateneo. We’re very excited, knowing that he will be a significant part of our program moving forward,” stated Ateneo Head Coach Tab Baldwin.

Bahay will now join his former SHS-ADC Magis Eagles Raffy Celis and Michael Asoro at Ateneo, as well as former Batang Gilas colleagues Kyle Gamber, Lebron Nieto, Kobe Demisana, and Mason Amos.

Bahay will be eligible to play for five years, beginning in Season 87.
