P-POP stars BINI made another milestone this year when it dominated online music streaming platform Spotify’s Daily Top Artists Philippines chart, replacing global pop sensation Taylor Swift in the top spot.

Record label Star Music shared BINI’s feat on Sunday, June 16, saying that the girl group made history as the “first Filipino act” to reach the top place in the chart.

The eight-member girl group–composed of Jhoanna, Maloi, Aiah, Gwen, Mikha, Stacey, Sheena, and Colet–dethroned the “Cruel Summer” singer who had been number one in the chart for almost two years, according to chart data.

Before this, BINI solidified its status as the “nation’s girl group” when it became the first-ever Filipino act to enter Spotify’s Top Artists Global chart, debuting at the 193rd spot.

The octet also reached six million streams on the online streaming platform.

Formed through ABS-CBN’s Star Hunt Academy in 2019, BINI officially entered the local music scene with the release of their debut single “Born to Win” in June 2021.

On International Women’s Day on March 8, 2024, the group dropped its debut extended play (EP) “Talaarawan,” which included the songs “Pantropiko,” “Karera,” and “Salamin, Salamin” that took the internet by storm.

Many well-known local and international personalities, including K-pop idols, have dived into the viral “Pantropiko” and “Salamin, Salamin” dance challenges.

The most recent artist who joined the hype train was Solar of K-pop vocal powerhouse Mamamoo who surprised her fans with her rendition of “Pantropiko” during the Manila leg of her “Colours” concert at The Theater at Solaire.

In several videos shared by netizens online, Solar could be seen grooving to the hit summer song while wearing a pride flag as her cape. The Philippines is celebrating Pride Month this June.

TikTok accounts revived

But it is not only the girls’ accomplishments that hit the headlines recently.

On Saturday, BINI trended on social media as its fans, collectively known as BLOOMs, expressed concerns over the banned TikTok accounts of seven BINI members, except for Jhoanna.

This prompted BINI to address the issue, saying that it contacted TikTok to recover the members’ accounts. The group said it has also raised the verification of the members’ TikTok profiles to the social media platform.

Thankfully, the seven girls’ TikTok accounts were recovered on Sunday.

Upcoming projects

BINI celebrated its third anniversary as a group through its first-ever “National BINI Day,” held at One Ayala Mall in Makati.

The one-day event offered various activities for BLOOMs, including a dance workshop and the much-anticipated “BINI Hour” where the girls met their fans and answered a few questions from several members of the media.

The octet announced their upcoming events during the “BINI Hour,” including a fun run event this month.

Titled “BINI Run,” the five-kilometer event will be held at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on June 23.

Registration fees range from P999 to P1,200, including a singlet, bib, drawstring bag, and certificate.

The girls are set to have their first-ever concert titled “BINIverse” at the New Frontier Theater in Cubao, Quezon City, from June 28 to 30.

After this, they will embark on a regional concert tour in the country, which will kick off at Camp John Hay Trade and Cultural Center in Baguio on July 6. This will be followed by a show in Cebu and General Santos City.

BINI will also drop a new single titled “Cherry On Top,” following the success of its diary-inspired EP “Talaarawan.”
