Torrential rains continue to pound E. Visayas, Caraga

by Malou Talosig-Bartolome

IT seems like Shear Line is not yet done wearing its Scrooge hat. Two days after Christmas, rains brought by the Shear Line will continue to pound Visayas, Mindanao and Palawan.

Eastern Visayas and Caraga regions will take the beating more from Shear Line’s torrential rains today.

The rest of Visayas including Bohol, Zamboanga Peninsula, northern Mindanao, Palawan will also continue to suffer hits with moderate to heavy rains today. There might be thunderstorms, too. Not a good idea to be on the beach, again.

State weather forecasting agency Pagasa warned of flooding and rain-induced landslides in those areas.

Cagayan Valley,  Aurora, Quezon, and the Cordillera and Bicol region will also experience moderate to heavy rains today. Those are monsoon rains, and blame that on another December weather system this time — Northeast Monsoon.

The Northeast Monsoon is also behind the cool weather today. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon are enjoying its good effects the past week, and will likely continue to do so today.

For fishermen, the Northeast Monsoon spells bad news for their livelihood. Pagasa said strong to gale-force winds are enveloping almost the entire archipelago today.
