Y2K Filipino love teams we gushed over

by Christina Indon

It’s Throwback Thursday with these Filipino love teams!

Love teams have always been popular here in the Philippines, giving the audience joy and kilig.

To transport you back in time, check out some of the most famous love teams from the 2000s:

Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson

These two were housemates on Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition in 2006. In the show, they volunteer to stay inside Kuya’s house, where they will be doing challenges given by him.

Kim Chiu won the season, with Gerald Anderson taking third place. After that, they were given projects as a love team on ABS-CBN, even starring in the teen movie First Day High and the primetime series Sana Maulit Muli.

SUGGESTED STORIES:

Who you should thank this coming Labor Day

ON May 1st, the Philippines will celebrate Labor Day, otherwise.

PH’s Chantal Schmidt is 1st runner-up in Miss Eco Int’l 2024

FILIPINOS couldn’t be prouder of Filipina-German beauty queen Chantal Schmidt.

“GRAVY kung mag-gravy”: Excessive gravy consumption at fast-food draws flak

GRAVY gets a particular place in Filipino hearts. It has.

From there, they were given more projects as they became adults, such as I’ve Fallen For You, MMK, Paano Na Kaya, My Girl (remake of the South Korean series of the same name), and Tayong Dalawa.

Their tandem is no longer active, but watching their projects will definitely give viewers nostalgia and the kilig they felt back then.

Kathryn Bernardo and Albie Casiño

During Kathryn Bernardo’s rise to stardom as a teen actress, she was given the role of Mara David/ Mara del Valle in the series Mara Clara. The original series starred Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo as Mara and Gladys Reyes as Clara.

Just like in the original series, Mara’s character has a love interest named Christian, originally played by Wowie de Guzman. In the remake, the role was played by Albie Casiño as a popular basketball player in their school.

The tandem brought kilig to teen viewers thanks to Christian’s caring and genuine attitude towards Mara.

Mara Clara was only Bernardo and Casiño’s project as a love team.

Enchong Dee and Erich Gonzales

The two were first paired in the series Katorse, and their tandem became famous. They did another teleserye, Tanging Yaman.

Before landing their first roles as a love team, Gonzales played the antagonist in Sana Maulit Muli, while Dee was part of a love triangle in My Girl. Both series starred Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson but were released in different years.

They started having mature roles in the TV series Magkaribal and Maria La del Barrio, and in the movies I Do, and Once a Princess.

Due to Gonzales and Dee’s versatility in acting, no doubt they brought kilig vibes naturally.

Sandara Park and Hero Angeles

After competing in the talent search Star Circle Quest (also known as SCQ) in 2004, Sandara Park and Hero Angeles starred in their first movie, Bcuz of U. After that, they were paired again in the movie Can This Be Love.

Park and Angeles also starred in TV shows like Krystala, SCQ Reload: Ok Ako, Your Song, and Abt Ur Luv.

Angeles left showbiz early while Park was paired with co-SCQ contestant Joseph Bitangcol in the movie D’Lucky Ones.

Sandara Park left Philippine showbiz in 2007 to train under YG Entertainment in South Korea. In 2009, she debuted with the girl group 2EN1 until their disbandment in 2016.

Kristine Hermosa and Jericho Rosales

One of the OGs in Filipino loveteams, EchoTin gained popularity after starring in the soap opera Pangako Sayo.

Because of the drama’s success both locally and internationally, Hermosa and Rosales’ tandem gained more projects like Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas, Forevermore, Ngayong Nandito Ka, and Dahil May Isang Ikaw.
