WATCH: Gilas’ Brownlee explodes at 41, but Jordan’s Dar Tucker is unstoppable, too

by Aeron Pineda

GILAS Pilipinas failed to secure a comeback win against Jordan in a thrilling fourth quarter sequence, 90-91, ending their FIBA Asian Qualifier campaign on Monday, February 27, inside Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Justine Brownlee had a great game playing for the 2nd time for the team. He led the Philippine national team and cut the 25-point lead of Jordan in the first half. His teammates roared back with run after run to make it a game down the stretch.

The naturalized player created double-double figures with 41 points and 12 rebounds, yet this number is insufficient to win their last game in the Asian Qualifier campaign.

The national team tried to win the game, but unfortunately, some shots in the last sequence did not come into the basket, including the 2 missed free throws of Scottie Thompson.

Despite that, the star guard played decently for the team with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. But also admitted that he needs improvement.

Ray Parks Jr. also had the opportunity to give Gilas the win, but missed the shot as the final buzzer sounded.

Behind the enormous numbers of Brownlee, another Barangay Ginebra player Jamie Malonzo contributed 11 points, five rebounds and three steals for the Gilas Pilipinas.

Some young and international Gilas players, including Jordan Heading, Bobby Ray Parks and Dwight Ramos, impacted the team. They contributed a good number for the team and also key roles of coach Chot Reyes against Jordan.

Meanwhile, Jordan took their sixth win and tied with the Philippines with a 6-4 win-loss record in Group E.

Jordan’s import, Dar Tucker, is the top scorer for the team with 22 points, 12 rebounds, as he continues to lead the team in their campaign for the FIBA World Cup.

Other Jordanian cagers performed as well — Freddie Ibrahim (19 points, 8 assists), Ahmad Alhamarsheh (8 points, 8 rebounds), and Amin Abu Hawwas 98 points).
