UAAP Cheerdance all set for Saturday

by Bryan Gadingan

THE UAAP Cheerdance Competition, one of the most anticipated events in UAAP Season 86, is ready to seize the spotlight in a hectic UAAP weekend tomorrow, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

This yearly spectacular will begin at 2:00 p.m., showing the peak of athleticism, innovation, and school spirit as cheerleading squads from throughout the league compete for the championship of this exhibition event.

During the UAAP Season 86 Cheerdance Competition press conference, Executive Director Atty. Rene Saguisag Jr. expressed his delight about hosting this year’s event, adding that the event fosters camaraderie while celebrating the spirit of friendly rivalry.

“We are thrilled to host the UAAP Season 86 Cheerdance Competition at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. This event is not only a showcase of the incredible talent and athleticism of our student-athletes but also a platform for schools to come together and celebrate the spirit of friendly competition,” Saguisag Jr. remarked.

Despite the start of a new season, the podium finishers from last year are likely to be the favorites in tomorrow’s competition.

Definitely the defending champions, the NU Pep Squad. In this year’s competition, the Bulldogs’ theme will be Elvis Presley, and they will seek to dazzle the audience with their nail-biting performance.

Gab Bajacan is the new coach of National U. “Still, we will be the NU Pep Squad na malakas pa rin talaga, death-defying. Masusurprise pa rin sila,” Bajacan promised during the event’s press briefing on Wednesday.

FEU Cheering Squad, who finished second after winning it all in Season 84, will attempt to evoke nostalgia with a piece focused around Super Mario and old-school video games.

“Our focus this year is to perform the theme which is sobrang layo ng theme namin this year compared sa lagi naming theme which is pop icons,” FEU team captain Sarah Jean Quintero said, vowing to create a mark in this daring decision to divert their theme to an unknown terrain.

The UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe, which is still the most successful squad in CDC history, along with the UP Pep Squad, will perform a Blackpink-themed dance.

“For this year, we just made sure that everybody’s going to have fun and that Salinggawi will be able to stand up for what a lot of the people are trying to say that this year’s CDC will be saving the best for the last since we’re going to be the last performers,”  Mark Chaiwalla, the head coach of UST, said.

The University of the East Pep Squad, the hosts of this year’s UAAP Season 86, will take the stage to start off the much-loved competition with a boom, hoping to set the tone for a night full of energy and excitement.

The defending champions, National University Pep Squad, Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, and Adamson University Pep Squad round out the first half of the competition.

The University of the Philippines Pep Squad and De La Salle University Animo Squad will compete in the second half, with Far Eastern University and the University of Santo Tomas rounding up the event.
