House of Representatives plenary

Traffic plan for SONA 2023 released

by Carl Santos

The House of Representatives has released the vehicular traffic plan for the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on July 24.

Marcos will speak before a joint session of Congress at the Batasang Pambansa Complex, where the House of Representatives is located.

According to House Sergeant-at-Arms Napoleon Taas, there will be a zipper lane in the southbound lane along Commonwealth Avenue, beginning at the PHILCOA area near the Quezon Memorial Circle.

Cars with SONA VIP passes may take advantage of this zipper lane to get to the Batasang Pambansa Complex faster.

Vehicles using this lane shall exit to the northbound lane of Commonwealth Avenue past Don Antonio Village before turning right at the U-turn slot and proceeding to the IBP Road towards the Batasang Pambansa Complex.

Those coming from the Fairview area may also use the southbound lane and take the same U-turn slot to get to the SONA venue.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will deploy 1,300 personnel to facilitate vehicular traffic on SONA Day along Commonwealth Avenue.

MMDA Special Events Operations Head Emmanuel Miro advised those who need to go to the Fairview area from EDSA to take Mindanao Avenue from North Avenue, take the Sauyo Road or Quirino Highway, and exit past the Batasan area to Commonwealth Avenue.

The agency also shared the re-routing plan that light vehicles may use.

To get to Payatas Road and Commonwealth Avenue, northbound vehicles will go through roads in Marikina City. Trucks should take Congressional Avenue to get to their destination if they are coming from Katipunan Avenue or C-5 Road.
