‘Topakk’ to be Featured in Cannes’ Fantastic Pavilion Gala

by Izel Abanilla

Topakk is set for gala screening at the Cannes’ Marché du Film Fantastic Pavilion.

The movie premiere is set to happen on May 18 at the Olympia Theater.

This action thriller movie stars Atayde, Julia Montes, Sid Lucero and Enchong Dee as the lead cast.

The film’s story basically follows the life of an ex special forces operative suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In his bid to redeem himself, he worked as a security guard who eventually found himself saving a woman (Montes) who was being hunted by a corrupt police death squad working for a drug cartel.

Film director said as quoted by Variety that “It’s my dream to show the world what pure Pinoy action cinema is all about.” At the Cannes, he will be joined by his producers and stars Atayde and Dee.

On Dee’s Instagram story, he posted a teary-eyed smiley with the caption, “dreams do come true.”

The entire team behind the film highlights efforts for global penetration of Topakk to further encourage the local film industry to produce more action films. In the past decades especially during the ‘90s, production of hard action films is at its peak. However, recent years have seen a massive decline of the genre and a strong focus on romantic films and comedy films.
