ONE of the top Youtubers on the planet, MrBeast also known as Jimmy Donaldson, 23, did something really special this week. He made 1000 “blind” people from the United States and other countries literally see.
“In this video we’re curing a thousand people’s blindness,” MrBeast declared in the beginning of his number 3 trending Youtube video which was viewed by 73 million people in four days.
“It’s gonna be crazy.” He added before the camera pulled away showing hundreds of people in the background with him.
200 million people have curable blindness
According to Donaldson, 200 million people from all over the world have blurry vision and that they helped a thousand of them. The video then shows a woman with an eye plaster removed as she sees for the first time without any problems.
You can tell she was in awe.
MrBeast’s surgeon then explains that half of the blind people in the world only need a 10 minute procedure to help them see again.
“If you’re wondering, how the surgery allows people to see again,” MrBeast explained.
“It’s because the lens in the eyes got so cloudy, they can’t see through it. So the surgeon uses a tiny vacuum to suck up the clouded lens and replace it with an artificial one.” He added.
Dr. Dingo Braganza, an ophthalmologist here in the Philippines said that this procedure is called a phacoemulsification cataract surgery which costs around P35,000 to P45,000 per eye.
MrBeast is a beast making a difference
One after the other, people in the video who were given the procedure for free could be seen getting emotional after gaining their sight back.
MrBeast as he is known to do something extra for his fans did it again for some of them. One kid who had been blind for most his life got US$50,000 for his education with his family visibly moved by the moment.
After telling an older black woman that he was going to pay for the surgery, he handed over a suitcase filled with $10,000 as she fell down to the ground overwhelmed by the gesture.
He also gave away a brand new Tesla electric vehicle to a young man after finding out that he wanted to be able to drive after the procedure.
Turns out the guy doesn’t even know how to drive but they still gave him the car and let him drive around in a parking lot which made for a funny moment.
Towards the end of the video, he showed all the places in the world where they went to complete the 1000 people he wanted to give the surgery. They were in countries like Namibia, Mexico, Honduras, Indonesia, Brazil, Vietnam, Kenya and Jamaica.
270000 of his followers took the time to comment and most were moved by the video while freely expressed their appreciation.
MrBeast is not only the biggest Youtuber in the world but perhaps the biggest role model which the world needs more than ever.
