This is not a moment, it’s a movement: ‘Hamilton’ musical headed to Manila

FILIPINO theater fans surely feel lucky to be alive right now as the hit musical show Hamilton will be staged in Manila this coming September.

In a Youtube video, Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator of the multi-awarded musical, officially confirmed that Hamilton is set to make its Asian premiere in Manila at the Theater at Solaire.

“Kamusta Pilipinas! This is Lin-Manuel Miranda and I’m so excited to officially announce that ‘Hamilton’ will be making its Asian Premiere in the Philippines,” the producer said.

Miranda also mentioned that a number of Filipino performers had been part of the “Hamilton pamilya” over the past years including Marc dela Cruz, Karla Puno Garcia, and Christina Glur on Broadway and Rachelle Anne Go and Christine Allado at London’s West End.

“Now we get to bring the show to your beautiful country very soon,” he continued. “I can’t wait for you to see it.”

This production is part of the musical’s first international tour, which will commence in Auckland, New Zealand in May.

Tickets will be available for purchase starting on April 24 at Hamilton and producer GMG Productions’ websites.

Other details regarding the show, including its schedule and ticket rates, is yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, Hamilfans may also sign up to the waitlist for the pre-sale access on April 20 at 10 a.m. via TicketWorld.

Miranda also said that additional cities for the tour will be announced soon.

Hamilton is a popular Broadway musical created by Miranda that narrates the tale of Alexander Hamilton, one of America’s Founding Fathers. 

The award-winning musical blends hip-hop, R&B, and traditional show tunes to create a unique and energetic sound. 

It premiered on Broadway in 2015 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon, winning numerous awards including 11 Tony Awards, a Grammy Award, and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

The musical has also been adapted into a movie version that was released on Disney+ in 2020. 

The popularity of “Hamilton” has helped to bring a new generation of fans to the world of musical theater.
