Not only does the British coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama television series Heartstopper return with a more heart-tugging storyline, but it is also packed with an even bigger and more diverse playlist, including a song from Taylor Swift.
The eight new episodes feature 45 songs from established musicians such as Conan Gray, Wolf Alice, boygenius’ Lucy Dacus, Baby Queen, Christine and the Queens, Tegan and Sara and Swift.
All the songs are now available on Spotify under the Heartstopper: Official Playlist. For hardcore fans of the series, the music streaming platform also offers a bespoke playlist for each of the core characters.
Netflix’s hit queer teen drama is based on popular graphic novels by Alice Oseman and has amassed a strong LGBTQ+ fan base.
In an interview with Spotify, producer Patrick Walters shared the process behind coming up with the perfect soundtrack, which featured emerging queer artists.
He said there is something “raw and emotional” in the music made by young artists.
“ “They wear their hearts on their sleeves, just like the characters in Heartstopper,” he said.
“Our music syncs work best when the emotion of the scene is underlined by the lyrics and swagger of the song and artist,” he added.

Heartstopper Season Two is now streaming on Netflix.
