by RepublicAsia

PREPARE your pockets and credit cards, bestie!

Planning to watch your favorite series or movies in Disney+? Then, here’s a heads-up as Disney+ announced their updated subscription rates here in the Philippines that starts from Php 249.

The streaming platform said that beginning April 24, 2024, the previous “Mobile plan” would undergo changes, including a new price offering and will be renamed as “Basic plan.” Customers may still choose Basic Plan or Premium Plan with an option of monthly or annual subscription.

The Basic Plan will start at Php 249 monthly (previously Php 159) and Php 1,990 annually (previously Php 1,150). The Premium Plan will start at Php 519 for monthly subscriptions (previously Php 369) and Php 4,190 for annual subscription (previously Php 2,950).

These changes vary, depending on your subscription date.

The plans differ in features, such as the number of simultaneous streams and the audio and video quality available.

In contrast, Netflix, another streaming platform, cut their monthly subscription fees in February 2023. The Basic Plan now costs Php 249 per month instead of Php 369, while the Standard Plan costs Php 399 instead of Php 459. For their Mobile and Premium Plan, they will retain their monthly subscription that cost Php 149 and Php 549, respectively.

The new pricing offered by Disney+ for their Premium Plan is now close to what Netflix offers for their Premium Plan.

Disney CEO Bob Iger also mentioned plans to restrict account users from sharing their passwords starting this year.

“We’re actively exploring ways to address account sharing and the best options for paying subscribers to share their accounts with friends and family,” he said.

It can be recalled that last year, Netflix started to crack down on password sharing. Account holders can add more people outside of the household for an extra fee.

Disney+ was launched in the Philippines in November 2022, offering shows and movies from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and Star, with a competitive price of as low as Php 149/month at the time.
