by Izel Abanilla

Singer Selena Gomez is back to being the most followed celebrity on Instagram with 382 million followers, dethroning model Kylie Jenner who fell short of two million from her with 380 million followers both as of writing.

With 382 million followers, the former Disney star turned pop-star can command a staggering US$2 million per Instagram post.

  4. Selena Gomez, celebrity – 320 million followers – US$1.7 million per post
  5. Dwayne Johnson- 315 million followers – US$1.7 million per post

Two weeks ago, Selena posted a photo of herself as a girl holding Coke wearing a tshirt that says “Coke.”

Assistant posting in her IG

While Selena seemed to be more active on the platform lately, she revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that she only has Tiktok on her phone and removed Instagram years ago.

It’s only her assistant who posts content on her page.

She stepped back from social media when she started getting hate comments after heir breakup with Canadian pop star Justin Bieber.

“I never got the chance to go to an actual high school. The world was my high school for the longest time, and I started getting inundated with information that I didn’t want. I went through a hard time in a breakup and I didn’t want to see any of the [feedback]—not necessarily about the relationship, but the opinions of me versus [someone] else. There’d be thousands of really nice comments, but my mind goes straight to the mean one,” she said.

The deluge of mean comments had become unbearable.

“People can call me ugly or stupid and I’m like, Whatever. But these people get detailed,” she continued. “They write paragraphs that are so specific and mean. I would constantly be crying. I constantly had anxiety…I couldn’t do it anymore. It was a waste of my time,” she said

“The only thing I have on my phone is TikTok because I find it to be a little less hostile,” she said.

Gomez was diagnosed with bipolar in 2018 disorder and fought hard to keep her mental health.

She still believes there are so many other wonderful things about social media, like connecting with fans and seeing them happy with their lives. But now, she simply just “created a system” of things she puts out publicly, which she gives to her assistant, who posts them.

As far as comments are concerned, “my team will put together a few things that are encouraging,” she said.

Selena takes a break from social media

Despite her Instagram supremacy, Selena recently announced on Tiktok that she will take a break from social media.

“I’m good,” she told her followers.

“I love who I am, I don’t care. I’m big, I’m not, I don’t care. I love who I am. And yeah, I’m gonna be taking a second from social media ’cause this is a little silly. And I’m 30. I’m too old for this.

“But I love you guys so much!” the pop star continued. “And I’ll will see you guys sooner than later. I’m just gonna take a break from everything.”
