THE Philippine Basketball Association held its 48th Season’s Rookie Draft on Sunday at Taguig’s Market! Market!.
The TerraFirma Dyip selected Stephen Holt, a 31-year-old Filipino-American guard who played in the NBA G League and the Atlanta Hawks’ Summer League, with the first overall pick.
Following that, the Blackwater Bossings were able to get Christian David, a 6-foot-6 Fil-Canadian, as their second overall pick in the draft. Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, who was traded to NLEX, might have been replaced.
The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, on the other hand, went after bigs as they were able to secure two big men. They selected Luis Villegas and Keith Datu Jr. as their third and fourth picks, respectively.
The first round of the draft was dominated by Fil-Foreign players. Ricci Rivero, one of the draft’s most decorated basketball players who was projected to be taken in the first round, was selected by the Phoenix Super LPG.
The former UAAP star went from a predicted first-round selection to the 17th overall pick in the draft.
While YouTube phenomenon Kyt Jimenez realized a longstanding ambition by being selected in the ninth round as the 76th overall pick of the draft by the SanMiguel Beermen, he will join his lifelong idol Terrence Romeo.
According to reports, 124 talented players were available for selection in the draft. However, only 79 players were chosen by their respective teams in the draft, which lasted 11 rounds.
With the talent on the table, some consider this to be one of the deepest PBA Drafts in recent memory.
