PAGASA: LPA to develop into tropical depression Aghon by Friday

by Kiko Cueto

STATE weather forecasters said that the country’s first tropical depression has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility and may soon turn into a tropical depression by Friday.

According to PAGASA, the now low pressure area (LPA) entered the Philippine area where at 10 a.m., it was located 870 km east of southeastern Mindanao.

PAGASA said the LPA can develop into a tropical depression by Friday morning.

It will be called Aghon.

Meanwhile, tropical cyclone wind signals could be raised immediately in some parts of Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas.

Aghon will move northwestward towards Samar and Bicol Region late Friday through Saturday but will remain offshore.

PAGASA said that the possibility of a landfall over the aforementioned areas is not ruled out.

Aghon is expected to intensify into a tropical storm while recurving over the Philippine Sea east of Central Luzon on Sunday.

It may intensify further into a severe tropical storm while tracking northeastward away from the country.
