No weather disturbance, Fri-yey!

by Malou Talosig-Bartolome

IT’S Fri-yey! and the weather agrees.

State weather forecasting agency Pagasa said the country will continue to have generally fair weather today, February 3.

The prevailing weather system, the Northeast Monsoon, has weakened slightly and will not pose any significant impact in Luzon and Visayas.

Cagayan Valley, the eastern side of the Cordillera region, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, and large parts of the Bicol region may experience light rains.

Mindanao, meanwhile, will have cloudy skies, too. But it may be hot and humid especially in the afternoon.

Davao City and Zamboanga City may experience 32°C. So don’t forget to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

Some areas in Mindanao may experience rain showers or thunderstorms here and there due to localized thunderstorms.

Hot! Hot! Hot!

Due to the weakened Northeast Monsoon, it was quite hot yesterday.

The highest temperature so far for the year was registered in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro at 36°C.

This topped the temperature reading in Zamboanga City last January 6 at 35.3°C.

Is it the start of dry season?

The answer is no.

Pagasa weather forecaster Benison Estareja said winds brought by the Northeast Monsoon have weakened the past few days.

The temperature may feel a bit hotter compared the past few days.

There is also no gale warning for the day. So good news for our fishermen on board small boats.

But this may not last very long.

The weakened Northeast Monsoon will continue in the next couple of weeks and its strong gale force winds may return on the second week of February.

Estareja said Northeast Monsoon is expected to continue until end of February in most parts of Luzon and Eastern Visayas region.

Northern and central Luzon will feel the effects of the Northeast Monsoon during the first weeks of March.

Rainy Mindanao next week

Southern Mindanao may experience more rains over the weekend with the entry of rainclouds coming from the equator.

“Itong kumpol ng ulap near the equator, somewhere in the Pacific Ocean na unti-unting lumalapit at makakaapekto sa southern portion of Mindanao pagsapit po ng linggo,” Estareja said.

The rain clouds may form into an Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone, which may dump rains over the rest of Mindanao next week.
