NBA: Rockets attempt to trade Kevin Porter Jr.

by Bryan Gadingan

AFTER being involved in domestic violence, the Houston Rockets have begun negotiating a trade for Kevin Porter Jr.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, an NBA insider, the Rockets are quickly negotiating a trade for Porter along with several second round draft picks.

Porter, 23, agreed last year to a four-year contract worth up to $82.5 million. However, due to Porter’s history of off-court troubles, it was only partially guaranteed.

The NBA player was charged with criminal assault and strangulation, according to reports.

Porter’s 26-year-old girlfriend, former WNBA star Kysre Gondrezick, was said to have been hit in the face with a closed fist several times.

As a result, she suffered a laceration above her right eye, bruising, severe discomfort in her face, and a fractured spine.

Porter pleaded not guilty to assaulting his girlfriend after being detained earlier this week in Manhattan. The Rockets guard was released on $75,000 cash bail.

The NBA is actively investigating the matter. It’s difficult to imagine the NBA not taking strong action if their investigation confirms all of the accusations.

If Porter is not traded, the Rockets’ best option is to waive him. However, the league and team may decide to wait until the legal matter is resolved before taking action.

Last season, Porter averaged an impressive 19.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists in 34.3 minutes of action with the Rockets.

However, it is not clear whether Porter will ever play on an NBA court again after putting himself in such a terrible situation.
