NBA: Detroit Pistons on the other side of history

by Bryan Gadingan

AFTER a 118-112 loss to the visiting Brooklyn Nets, the Detroit Pistons now have the NBA’s longest losing streak in a single season.

The Pistons, who presently have a 2-28 regular season record, have fallen on the wrong side of history as they are currently in the bottom of the regular season rankings after failing to win against the Nets yesterday.

Prior to their loss to the Nets, they were tied with the 2010-2011 Cleveland Cavaliers and the 2013-2014 Philadelphia 76ers, which had a league-record 26 straight losses.

Cade Cunningham had a fantastic game, scoring 41 points and dishing out nine assists. He took over in the second half, scoring 37 points on 13-of-16 shooting. Bojan Bogdanovic contributed 23 points in a losing effort.

Detroit started fast, leading 22-8 in the first quarter, and as a team, it played with more grit than we’ve seen for much of this losing skid, pushing back when the Nets made runs.

Despite playing hard for the whole game, the Pistons were unable to stop the bleeding. Head coach Monty Williams believed that the team must maintain composure in order to win.

“The way we started was something we’ve seen a lot this year. We’ve had really good starts, at times, and there’s been times we’ve been in a hole as well,” said Williams.

“To start like that and let it go in the second quarter, that was the quarter that put us in a hole,” he said.

Unfortunately for the Pistons, things will not get easier as they face the Eastern Conference’s top seed, the Boston Celtics, on Friday (PH time), followed by the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.
