NACC monitoring babies being sold online

by Kiko Cueto

JUST about everything is being sold on Facebook. Sadly, even newborn babies.

The National Authority for Child Care revealed that at least 23 pages the social media giant app Facebook were found to be selling babies online, something that alarms them especially on a moral scale.

According to NACC executive director Janella Estrada, the babies are sold between P10,000 to P100,000.

“Diyan po sila nag-uusap nang mag-aalok ng baby,” she was quoted by  state television PTV.

“Kahit nasa tiyan pa lang ng mga biological mothers, naghahanap na po sila ng mga ahente, ng mga brokers para ampunin ang kanilang anak,” she lamented.

This is why they are closely coordinating with the Philippine National Police as well as other offices so as to trace and arrest individuals who may have been involved in the online selling of babies.

“Nagsend po kami ng letter sa Facebook Meta Philippines although wala pa pong reply sa amin,” she said.

“We shall intensify our information campaign para ipaalam sa ating mga kababayan na mayroon pong NACC na puwedeng tumulong sa kanila patungkol sa adoption and child care cases,” she added.

The NACC said that those buying and selling children may be charged with trafficking and child abuse and may pay a fine between P1 million and P5 million.

They are also looking at imprisonment for a period not less than 20 years.
