Maverick Ahanmisi joins Barangay Ginebra

by Bryan Gadingan

MAVERICK AHANMISI, a highly sought-after unrestricted free agent, reportedly accepted the offer of a three-year maximum contract with Barangay Ginebra on Monday.

The 6-foot-2 Fil-Nigerian guard will surely strengthen Barangay Ginebra’s backcourt, along  with Scottie Thompson and Stanley Pringle.

With Jeremiah Gray out for the season and LA Tenorio’s full recovery unknown, Ahanmisi may also play a significant role in the upcoming conference.

The former third-overall pick is coming off a stellar season where he led his old squad with an average of 13.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.2 steals.

Despite his outstanding performance, Ahanmisi became an unrestricted free agent after failing to reach an agreement with his old team, the Converge FiberXers, on a contract extension.

The reported contract renewal talks with the FiberXers required a lengthy back-and-forth negotiation before collapsing as the two camps were not on the same page.

Ahanmisi, on the other hand, appears to be a wonderful fit for Barangay Ginebra. His versatility would complement and make room for Ginebra’s twin towers, Japeth Aguilar and Christian Standhardinger.

The arrival of Maverick Ahanmisi would only deepen the rotation of Barangay Ginebra’s already formidable and stacked lineup.
