Marina Summers to represent PH in ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs the World’ Season 2

by Joanna Deala

“RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs the World” will return for a second season, which means a new set of drag queens will compete with one another to be the next “Queen of the Mothertucking World.”

Filipino drag fans couldn’t be more excited about it because it is now less than Marina Summers who will raise the Philippine flag in this year’s international edition of hit reality competition television series “RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.”

The Filipina drag artist is among the 11 participants hailing from different countries and will vie for one crown. “RuPaul’s Drag Race UK” unveiled the cast members on its social media platforms on Saturday night, January 13.

“Representing the Philippines, it’s @marinaxsummers,” it said.

The post included Marina’s photos, who was clad in a formfitting royal blue gown.

Paul Sese, Marina’s stylist, revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that the outfit took inspiration from the winning gown of the Filipina beauty queen Pia Wurtzbach when she clinched the country’s third Miss Universe crown back in 2015.

Marina and Pia’s gowns were the masterpieces of designer Albert Andrada.

Meanwhile, the drag queen also announced on social media her participation in the second season of the international show.

“I wanna show the universe, the WORLD rather, that I am a true Filipina Winnah!” said Marina.

“And baby this time, I’m taking over the Mother-Tucking WORLD!” she added.

This revelation did not come as a surprise to some Filipino drag fans.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs the World” previously posted teaser images of the contestants, and some eagle-eyed netizens were quick to notice the tattoo Marina has on her right arm.

The Pinay drag queen will be joined by Arantxa Castilla-La Mancha of Spain; Hannah Conda of Australia; Keta Minaj of Holland; La Grande Dame of France; Mayhem Miller and Scarlet Envy of the United States; and Choriza May, Gothy Kendoll, Jonbers Blonde, and Tia Kofi of the United Kingdom.

These global drag queens will aim to succeed Blu Hydrangea, who clinched the title of “Queen of the Mothertucking World” in the first season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs the World.”

This year’s competition will probably be fiercer as the winner will also take home a cash prize for the first time, according to reports.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs the World” season two is set to premiere on February 9.

In October 2023, it was confirmed that “Drag Race Philippines” was renewed for a third season, along with “Drag Race France” and “Drag Race Thailand.”

Cast members for the new season are still kept under wraps.

Drag queens Precious Paula Nicole and Captivating Katkat won the first and second season of the Philippine franchise of the hit series, respectively.

It’s ‘Summer season’

The dry season has not officially begun yet in the Philippines, but for Filipino drag fans, the “Summer season” has already arrived.

Many netizens are looking forward to seeing how Marina Summers will elevate her game to the next level as she sets foot on the international stage, after she was named first-runner up in the first season of “Drag Race Philippines” in 2022.

Prior to joining the international show, Marina released her new single titled, “ride 4 me,” in April 2023. This was her first song under Tarsier Records.
