TV host and actress Maine Mendoza turned emotional when her fellow hosts in the noontime show her E.A.T. threw her a bridal shower during its July 22 episode.
Mendoza shed tears as the hosts and guests serenaded her and celebrated her forthcoming wedding to actor and Quezon City Rep. Arjo Atayde.
The bridal special began with Mendoza being escorted into the studio while dancing to Beyonce’s Single Ladies.
A queen’s chair waited for Mendoza in the middle of the stage. Before she sat, she was given a headband and a sash saying “Bride to be.”
The show prepared a serenade for her that was fit for a queen.
OPM icon and former Side A frontman Joey Generoso sang the David Pomeranz classic Born For You, followed by co-host Carren Eistrup’s performance of Bic Runga 90s classic Sway.
But it was Ice Seguerra’s performance of Coldplay’s Yellow that brought the bride-to-be to tears.
At the latter part of the show, other E.A.T hosts such as Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, Paolo Ballesteros and Wally Bayola also performed for Mendoza.
The 28-year-old actress cried while thanking her “Dabarkads” in the E.A.T family.
“Sobrang blessed ko na dito ako dinala ni Lord,” she said in between sobs.
She could not believe everything that was happening and that she was deserving of it, she said.
“Sa araw-araw po na kasama ko kayo, lagi niyo pong pinaparamdam sa akin na parte po ako dito. Maraming salamat po,” she added.
She really feels that they are happy for her and that they love her, she said.
“Maraming salamat Miss Tapsi (Ryzza Mae Dizon), couz Joey, Ice and Carren,” Mendoza said, referring to their skit names. “Thank you Ninong Vic [Sotto], Ninong Tito [Sotto], Ninong Joey [de Leon]. Maraming salamat din do’n sa mga Dabarkads na nandito ngayon.”
“Alam kong masaya kayo para sa tatahakin kong journey as a wife—wow, wife era. Thank you, thank you,” she added.
When’s the wedding?
Both Mendoza and Atayde have been silent about the details of their wedding. But de Leon seemed to have dropped a hint that the wedding of the couple might happen this July.
Mendoza and Atayde got engaged on July 28, 2022.
It was the ninth anniversary of Mendoza’s “Arjo cutie” tweet, and Atayde said he really planned to pop the question on this date.
