A MAGNITUDE 6.1 earthquake hit the waters off Balut Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental on Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
This came days after a Magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit Sarangani town on November 17, leaving at least nine people dead.
The earthquake, which occurred at 10:48 a.m., was traced 413 kilometers southeast of Balut Island and had a depth of focus of 173 km.
The reported intensities are the following:
Intensity II – CITY OF GENERAL SANTOS; Glan, Alabel, Malapatan, Malungon and Kiamba, SARANGANI; Tupi, Tampakan, City of Koronadal and Tboli, SOUTH COTABATO
Intensity I – Polomolok, Surallah and Lake Sebu,South Cotabato; Maasim and Maitum SARANGANI
Instrumental Intensities:
Intensity II – Don Marcelino, DAVAO OCCIDENTAL; Malungon, Glan, Alabel, Kiamba, SARANGANI; Tupi and T’Boli, SOUTH COTABATO;
Intensity I – Maitum, SARANGANI; CITY OF GENERAL SANTOS; Lake Sebu, SOUTH COTABATO
No damage or aftershock was expected from the latest earthquake, PHIVOLCS said.
