by Izel Abanilla

COULD you be the next K-pop idol?

The second season of I-LAND2, the idol audition program of the South Korean music television channel Mnet, is set to launch the next generation K-pop girl group in 2024.

The application period for interested hopefuls started on July 10 and will end on August 6, 2023.

The application is open to all girls born before January 1, 2011. They could be any nationality, as “girls all over the world” are welcome to show that they have what it takes to be the next K-pop stars.

“We spent a lot of effort and time to further advance our unique [show] format of ‘I-LAND2,’ and we will return with new tries and show designs. I hope you look forward to the program,” Mnet said in a press statement, as reported by Korea JoongAng Daily.

The final contestants will debut as a girl group under agency WakeOne Entertainment, which has been home to idols who debuted through Mnet’s auditions like ZeroBaseOne, winners of “Boys Planet,” and girl group Kep1er, winners of “Girls Planet 999” in 2021.

Those who want to be part of I-LAND 2 may send their applications through its website

I-LAND

I-LAND is a reality audition show for those who want to be part of a K-pop girl group. The participants will be in a colossal complex designed and built to produce the perfect idol group.

They will have access to world class facilities where they will live, train and perform.

They will compete among themselves to determine who will make the final line-up of the group.

During the previous season, contestants, either in a duo or a group, were trained to compete in three categories: vocals, rap or dance.

I-LAND’s first season

It was back in 2020 when the first season of I-LAND came out. The show was nominated for the 2021 International Emmy Awards for best non-scripted entertainment program.

The show concluded with the debut of ENHYPEN, a seven member group known for its hits Drunk Dazed, Fever, and Given-Taken.

Since its debut release, the group has gained massive global popularity, wowing netizens with the members’ talent, visuals, charisma and stage presence.
