KCC PH to celebrate Phil-Kor friendship via immersive exhibit, mini house concert

by Joanna Deala

DO you already have any plans for the weekend? Or would you like to do something new in your weekend routine? You might want to consider visiting the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Philippines and be part of its celebration of the friendship between the Philippines and South Korea.

To mark their 75th year of friendship, KCC will open a digital exhibit that will showcase Korean traditional paintings.

This will be called “Endless Landscape: Digitally Reimagined Korean Art,” which aims to highlight Korean cultural heritage and connect the two countries “through a unique intersection between the past and present.”

Based on several photos of the exhibition shared by KCC on social media, these Korean traditional paintings will be flashed on huge LED screens.

A total of four digital immersive video works will be displayed in the exhibition.

The “Endless Landscape: Digitally Reimagined Korean Art” exhibit will open its doors on January 19, until June 29, 2024.

Interested individuals won’t have to register first and pay an entrance fee because the activity will be free of charge.

The exhibition is located on the 5th floor of the Korean Cultural Center building in Taguig City. Visitors are welcome from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

KCC partnered with the National Museum of Korea, through the Overseas Korean Galleries Support Program for this event.

More activities have yet to be announced in connection with the celebration of Phil-Kor’s 75th year of friendship, according to KCC.

Mini house concert

Aside from the digital exhibit, KCC also plans to hold a free mini house concert in its building.

In partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), KCC aims to highlight traditional performances at the musical event.

This will be held on January 19, February 9, March 15, April 19, May 17, and June 14.

It has the same venue as the exhibit and will start at 3:30 p.m. There will be no registration required.

For the January 19 show, KCC invited Gayageum artist Ju Bora to grace the mini house concert. According to her profile shared by KCC, Ju attended Korea National University of Arts and has a background in traditional Korean music.

She is set to perform the following: “End of the Book,” “Arirang,” “Le Cottage,” “Janggu Garak,” “Spring | Shattered,” and “Eclipse.”

She will be joined by percussionist Kim Insoo, who plays various genres including traditional, practical, and modern music.
