by Izel Abanilla

Kapamilya A-list actress Kathryn Bernardo is certainly making waves in the international scene as she has just been recognized as the Outstanding Asian Star by the Seoul International Drama Awards (SDA) 2023.

In a Twitter post, the actress’ home network ABS-CBN congratulated the actress on this new milestone.

“This Asian Superstar is conquering the world! Mga beshy, kinilala si Kathryn Bernardo bilang Outstanding Asian Star sa Seoul International Drama Awards 2023!” ABS-CBN Entertainment tweeted.

Aside from Bernardo, the other local stars nominated in the category were Daniel Padilla, Dennis Trillo, Barbie Forteza, and Julie Anne San Jose.

Actors from South Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand also competed in their respective sub-categories.

The winners were chosen via voting from fans. The voting period ran from June 15-July 14, 2023 through the app “Idolchamp,” a voting platform service jointly developed by TNK Factory and MBC Plus which has over 8 million fandom users all over the world.

Founded in 2006, the Seoul International Drama Awards is a festival that aspires to foster cultural diversity by bringing together global television drama productions.

Filipino celebrities who already won recognitions from the SDA include Gabby Concepcion, Dennis Trillo, Alden Richards, Dingdong Dantes, and Belle Mariano

Busy year for Kathryn

Aside from headlining most of the Kapamilya network’s most ambitious projects, Bernardo remains busy working on other projects for 2023.

She has just finished filming the movie A Very Good Girl, where she stars alongside internationally-acclaimed actress Dolly de Leon. She said this had been among her “happiest and most memorable shooting” to date.

Directed by Petersen Vargas, the movie is about the life of two self-made women.

Bernardo is also set to reach new heights with her forthcoming portrayal of a wartime comfort woman in the period film Elena 1944.

It will be produced by Black Sheep Productions, which is known for movies like Exes Baggage, Alone/Together, Fan Girl and Whether the Weather is Fine (Kun Maupay Man It Panahon).

After the actress turned 27 last March 26, she said she was now open to playing more mature characters.

One of the reasons why she said “yes” to the comfort woman project is the readiness of her family, boyfriend Daniel Padilla, and her fans to see her in a daring role.

Also, she is excited to work again with Olivia Lamasan, who directed her hit movie Barcelona: A Love Untold.
