NETIZENS were surprised after it was revealed that former couple Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto would appear together again onscreen in “Un/happy For You,” their new movie to be released this year.
In a recent interview with Mj Felipe for “New Movie Alert,” the joy and excitement of the former couple could be felt as they shared some much-awaited scenes from the movie.
Garcia recalled that he said “yes” right away upon first hearing about the project. He said it’s been a long time since he has worked with Julia.

“Nung nalaman ko yung project, sabi ko yes agad kasi ang tagal na rin kasi nung agwat nung panahon na nag-work kami before kasi mga teenager kami,” he expressed.
“And ang saya lang na nagkanya-kanya kaming journey, ngayon magbabalikan kami sa pelikula,” he said.
Barretto said that “Un/happy For You” was the right material and that it also came at the right time.
“Over the years, there were several attempts to coming together… At some point when a good material comes along and great team, of course, being reunited with Josh is such an exciting idea,” the actress said.

“It almost felt like maybe it was the right time, it’s the right material, we’re both in a good place in our life. I’m happy na magkakatrabaho tayo uli,” she added.
Discussing the film’s story line, Garcia said that as actors, he felt that he and Julia will not find it challenging given their relationship history.
On the other hand, “it looks familiar,” was Barretto’s reaction when she heard about the storyline. She said that she didn’t expect it to be super far from what everybody has experienced, not just between her and Joshua.
When asked about what to expect about their chemistry as actors, Garcia said: “Kinakapa na naman ulit namin yung isa’t isa, kahit ang tagal na namin magkatrabaho before.”
While Barretto said, “This feels familiar pero parang bago din because we are getting to re-know each other again.”

Garcia and Barreto first worked together in “Vince and Kath and James” in 2016, “Love You to the Stars and Back” in 2017, “I Love You, Hater” in 2018 and “Block Z” in 2020. They last appeared together in Moira dela Torre’s music video for “Paubaya.”
The former love team also had a real-life romance from 2017-2019 and have worked together on numerous projects. Despite their breakup, Joshua said that he’s willing to work with the actress again.
“Un/happy For You,” a collaboration of Star Cinema and Viva Films, is directed by Peter Vargas and written by Kookai Labayen, Crystal San Miguel and Jen Chuaunsu.
A release date for the film has yet to be revealed but it is set for a 2024 premiere.
