It’s a beautiful Thursday, Philippines

MOST of the country will experience generally fair weather today, February 2, except for sporadic rains in the eastern corridor of the archipelago.

State weather bureau Pagasa said the prevailing weather system in the country for the day is the Northeast Monsoon. But the northern winds are not as chilly nor as strong compared to the past few weeks.

The moderately cool winds from Northeast Monsoon are being felt in Luzon and Visayas.

The Shear Line which dampened Visayas and Mindanao yesterday has dissipated. The trough of the Low Pressure Area which affected some parts of Palawan has moved further west towards the West Philippine Sea.

Luzon weather

Pagasa weather forecaster Benison Estareja said western and central Luzon will experience cloudy skies today.

Quezon, Laguna, Rizal, southern Aurora, large parts of Bicol, Oriental Mindoro and Marinduque will probably have isolated light rains in the morning.

Cagayan Valley and other parts of northern Luzon may also get light rains here and there in the afternoon until evening.

Metro Manila will likely have a very hot afternoon. The mercury may spike up to 33°C. Yesterday, Pagasa’s thermometer in Science Garden in Quezon City registered 33°C around 2pm.

San Jose City in Mindoro Occident was also very hot at 33.7°C. Dagupan City in Pangasinan also came close to 33°C yesterday.

Subic in Zambales, Clark in Pampanga and Sangley Point also had to endure a 32°C level of temperature yesterday.

On Baguio City’s first day of Panagbenga Flower Festival, it was a chilly 14.3°C around 1:50am.

Basco, Batanes, Tuguegarao City, Tanay in Rizal, and Casiguran, Aurora also enjoyed the morning cool breeze between 15-18°C early morning yesterday.

Visayas weather

A generally fair weather greeted Visayans today.

Although in Eastern Visayas, northern Visayas, eastern Panay, northern Negros and northern Cebu, there might be isolated rains.

Around 2pm yesterday, Catbalogan City in Samar must have felt like a convection oven with 33.5°C temperature.

Mindanao weather

Caraga and Davao regions may have light rains, too, in the morning.

At 6:35 am, Pagasa issued a thunderstorm advisory, warning of moderate with occasionally heavy rain showers with lightning and strong winds in the following areas:

  • Agusandel Norte (LasNieves, Buenavista)
  • Lanao del Sur (Bumbaran)
  • Misamis Occidental (Lopez Jaena)
  • Misamis Oriental (Gingoog)
  • Surigao del Sur (Barobo, Tagbina)
  • Zamboanga del Norte (DapitanCity, Sibutad, LaLibertad, Mutia, Piñan, Polanco, DipologCity, Sindangan)

Light to moderate rain showers with lightning and strong winds were also experienced in the following areas:

  • Agusan del Sur (SanLuis, LaPaz)
  • Bukidnon (Maramag, Pangantucan, Kadingilan)
  • Davao de Oro (Monkayo, Compostela)
  • Davao Oriental (Caraga, Manay)
  • Maguindanao del Norte (Northern Kabuntalan)
  • North Cotabato (Alamada, Libungan, Midsayap, Aleosan, Carmen, Pikit)
  • Zamboanga del Norte( Katipunan, PresidentManuelA.Roxas, Manukan)
  • Basilan

There is also a high chance of rains in Soccsksargen and Bangsamoro regions in the afternoon.

The rains in Mindanao are brought by localized thunderstorms.

As for the rest of Mindanao, enjoy the partly cloudy to cloudy skies weather today.

Just watch out and don’t forget to hydrate in the afternoon, especially in Zamboanga City. Temperature in Asia’s Latin City may reach up to 33°C.

Yesterday, the highest temperature recorded in the country was in Zamboanga City at 34.3°C around 2:30pm.

Weekend outlook

It is a good time to go out of town this weekend as the weather is expected to be generally fair.

Estareja said Pagasa has not monitored any typhoon or LPA outside the Philippines.
