How LazBeauty helps empower Filipinas

by Christina Indon

On April 19, 2023, Republic Asia had the opportunity to meet the team behind LazBeauty, a recent project by online shopping platform Lazada that promotes redefining Filipina beauty.

During the lunch, Lazada discussed future plans for their empowering campaign and if there are activities to watch out for, among other topics. Since LazBeauty is a beauty campaign, they aspire to collaborate with beauty brands, whether local or international, and help buyers purchase beauty products for a lower price and have them shipped to their homes fast!

Recently, three beauty brands launched their respective products, and thankfully, LazBeauty decided to collaborate with these three brands: Sunnies Face, Teviant, and Anessa. With these brands launching new products, it would be a big help if makeup lovers would help boost their promotions.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to recommend products like a real influencer?

Here’s the catch: You can be one yourself!

Easy-peasy, right?

LazBeauty aims to let Filipinas promote beauty and let everyone know that they themselves can also influence others in their own way.

What’s the next step for LazBeauty?

Just two months ago, Lazada started a LazBeauty Room to spend time with friends while sharing their own beauty tips and secrets.

We wanted to know the campaign’s future plans and how it will really influence Filipinas to embrace their own version of beauty.

In an exclusive interview with Head of Marketing of Lazada PH, Kitty Calderon, and Head of Communications and PR of Lazada PH, Mia Colborne, they share their plans for Lazada and LazBeauty and how they will reach out to their consumers more.

How is LazBeauty important for Lazada since they want to redefine beauty?

Calderon says that it is important to establish that Lazada is a safe space where all Filipinas can come together to talk about beauty. She emphasizes that Lazada is targeting the younger generations, especially Gen Zs.

Colborne adds that women are important to Lazada and that the campaign has brought so much growth. As a marketing company, Lazada noticed that Filipinas love hair care, skin care, and looking and feeling good.

“When it comes to redefining beauty, as a morena myself, I feel like because of the many choices that you find on Lazada, I feel more represented, and there is better access to more products that work for me. I feel like whether you’re a chinita, mestiza, morena [like myself], you see something for yourself that would feel great every day,” Colborne says.

Does LazBeauty have any other brands they want to collaborate with in the future?

Calderon says that they want to collaborate with many brands but not with any in particular. LazBeauty has already collaborated with Sunnises Face and helped boost the marketing of their latest product, Sunsafe. Colourette has already onboarded LazBeauty, which is a good choice as they are a makeup product that is mostly well-known to Gen Zs and makeup buyers. Whether it be local or international, LazBeauty aims to offer a variety of products that buyers can choose from, taking quality and price into consideration. Calderon says that LazBeauty wants to empower more local brands to highlight that they can be on par with international products, too.

“It’s crazy! The interest and demand for brands to partner with us. When you partner with Lazada, you can unlock the growth of your business on the platform. For the Filipino brand side, it performs as well as the international brands,” Colborne says.

Even with small, growing brands like Clocheflame, Colborne says they are redefining morena beauty, are continuing to grow, and are the kind of success stories Lazada cares about. Authenticity and trust are very important for Lazada since they are the go-to partner for international beauty brands.

“We’re gonna have a partnership with Nars for the exclusive product drop. We’re gonna have more partnerships and engagements like that,” Colborne adds.

Does LazBeauty have any plans to affiliate with other beauty influencers, or do they have anyone in mind?

LazBeauty’s first brand ambassador is Kapuso actress Gabbi Garcia. She represents how LazBeauty wants to redefine and empower Filipinas.

Calderon is open to working with more influencers and personalities. She shares that so far, they have worked with Rei Germar, Kryzz Uy, Angelique Manto, Jacque Gutierrez, CEO of Happy Skin, and Nicole Andersson.

“So many plans, actually. We just started last February; we are continuing right now, and we hope to continue more and do more,” Calderon says.

Calderon adds, “We are actually planning on going down to the universities also. That’s very, very important because we really wanted to target the younger generations. You wanted to be really close to them, right?”

LazBeauty is planning to do an activity like their LazBeauty Room event where they have separate rooms for “everyday look,” “summer look,” and other makeup looks students can wear. This experience is for the students so they can experience what it is to be beautified and glam-ified by LazBeauty.

Colborne says you can sign up to be part of the LazBeauty Club for free! Benefits include being among the first to know new products, discounts, and vouchers that are powered by fast and free delivery. And with the use of the LazAffiliates, it will definitely help you earn while promoting products.

Indeed, Lazada has big plans for their company and that they really want to promote inclusivity to all Filipinas. Their goal of creating a safe space for Filipinas of all ages to embrace their beauty is something to watch out for.

We would like to thank Lazada Philippines for inviting us and Kitty Calderon and Mia Colborne for allowing us to interview them for this article.
