Here’s what Liza Soberano has been doing in South Korea this year

by Joanna Deala

LIZA Soberano has been sharing content on social media about her adventures in South Korea.

On July 30, the 25-year-old actress included random snaps from her last trip to the East Asian nation on Instagram. One of the photos showed Soberano with K-pop star Jeon Somi.

She also shared a TikTok video featuring content creator WonJeong in September.

It was also in that month when the actress revealed that she wanted to break into the Korean entertainment industry and that she had started learning the Korean language.

Well, guess what? Soberano has begun taking baby steps toward this goal with her guest appearance and new projects in South Korea.

‘Hwaiting’ series

This includes Soberano’s debut in the new season of “Hwaiting,” DIVE Studios’ highly anticipated series.

The multiplatform media company, founded by Eric Nam and his brothers Brian and Eddie, announced the cast on Tuesday. The fourth season of “Hwaiting” has some new yet familiar cast members.

“Get ready for the most exciting season of HWAITING yet!” DIVE Studios said.

The Filipina actress will be joined by Nam, Kevin and Jacob of K-pop boy group The Boyz, Jinjin of Astro, and former Momoland member Nancy.

In an Instagram story, Soberano shared she had so much fun filming the show. “Excited for everyone to see it,” she said.

Each season of “Hwaiting” features K-pop idols who will participate in various fun games. Winners will bag random prizes while losers will be subjected to punishments.

The show’s last season featured Jamie, Ashley Choi, Aron, AleXa, and Keeho and Jiung of boy band P1Harmony.

The release date for the forthcoming season has yet to be announced.

‘Liza in Korea’ travel series

Soberano is taking everyone, especially Hallyu fans, on a trip to the East Asian nation through her travel vlogs called “Liza in Korea” on YouTube.

The actress announced the series in September, saying that she “had the most amazing time exploring Korea.”

Through this project, Soberano said she was able to showcase and learn more about the culture of South Korea, from its food to its dynamic show-business industry.

Soberano featured WonJeong in the first episode of “Liza in Korea,” where they talked about his popularity on TikTok and did several TikTok content together.

The next episode will show Soberano taking on the “What’s in My Bag” challenge. It will air today, November 22, at 8 p.m.

‘Get Real’ appearance

Soberano previously appeared in “Get Real,” one of DIVE Studios’ programs.

This podcast’s episode premiered in April and was hosted by Choi and Peniel of boy band BTOB.

Soberano’s interview with the program trended on X (formerly Twitter) when she talked about the “love team” culture in the Philippine entertainment scene.

Soberano was the other half of LizQuen, one of the most popular reel-to-real couples in the country. She was partnered with her boyfriend Enrique Gil.

One of the actress’ notable quotes was when she shared with the hosts that the only way for an individual to become a big star is to be paired up with another celebrity.

This sentiment earned mixed reactions from netizens, with some agreeing with Soberano while others negatively responded.

Soberano’s last project with Gil was the romantic-comedy drama series “Make It With You” in 2020. The show, however, was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent denial of ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal.
