Heat breaks and safety protocols must be mandatory now

by Kiko Cueto

The Institute for Occupational Health and Safety Development (IOHSAD) is urging the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to ensure that there will be heat breaks as well as other protocols that entail mandatory statute in ensuring the  safety of workers, amid the intense heat.

According to the Institute for Occupational Health and Safety Development (IOHSAD) they made the appeal to coincide with the International Workers’ Memorial Day.

According to the IOHSAD, there are reports that there is an increasing number of cases of headaches, dizziness, and high blood pressure among workers.

This is being attributed to the extreme heat.

The group said that aside from heat breaks, DOLE should likewise conduct mandatory medical checkups, proper ventilation, adjusted work hours, and free access to drinking water, among others.

Earlier, the DOLE issued a labor advisory to which they urged employers to ensure the safety of their workers and prevent and control heat stress.
