Gigi Hadid caught with marijuana in Cayman Islands – US media report

by Izel Abanilla

American model and television personality Gigi Hadid and a friend were arrested at the Cayman Islands after marijuana was found in her luggage while being inspected by customs officers at the Owen Roberts International Airport last week.

The 28-year-old socialite and her friend, social media influencer Lea McCarthy were intercepted by authorities on July 10. A USA Today report confirmed that the two pleaded guilty to the drug charges.

According to a CBS News report, the Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control said the two “who arrived on a private aircraft to the Cayman Islands from the United States were arrested following a search of their luggage, and a small amount of marijuana was recovered.”

Quoting the statement sent to CBS News, a representative for Hadid argued that the Silent Witness actress did travel with marijuana purchased in New York and in fact had a medical license.

The representative even argued that “it has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.

The two were then fined $1200 Cayman Islands Dollars after appearing in court last July 12. Despite their plea, no conviction was recorded according to a statement released by the islands’ border authorities.

Both women however have been out on bail according to local publication Cayman Mark Road.

Prior to her arrest, Hadid even posted clips on her Instagram showing herself enjoying the ocean. In one of the posts, she said: “All’s well that ends well.”
