From crown to pen: Pia Wurtzbach teases release of debut novel in September

by Joyce Remo

MISS Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach can now add the credential “author” to her impressive resume as she announced the forthcoming release of her debut novel.

In an Instagram post, the beauty queen shared a photo of her book’s first page that bears the novel’s title and her name credited as the author.

“A novel by Pia Wurtzbach…that sounds good,” Wurtzbach wrote in the caption.

The novel is titled Queen of the Universe: A Novel: Love, Truth, Beauty.

It will be available in local bookstores starting September, according to Wurtzbach.

The novel is scheduled for international release in November.

Wurtzbach first teased that she will launch her first book earlier this month in a separate Instagram post

But as early as 2017, she has expressed her desire to publish her own book. She was inspired to follow the footsteps of her pageant mentor Jonas Gaffud, who released The Crown: Your Essential Guide to Becoming a Beauty Queen in the same year.

In 2019, she said the book she’s writing would be based on her own experiences and the stories of other girls who have joined the pageant world.

About the novel

Queen of the Universe: A Novel: Love, Truth, Beauty is a fictional novel that narrates the story of a Manila-based girl wearing many hats as she enters the world of beauty pageants.

The book’s short blurb on the Barnes & Noble website states that Cleo, the novel’s heroine, is set to confront various struggles, focusing on how she would rekindle her relationship with her estranged father.

“Set against the rich backdrop of Manila’s urban life, Queen of the Universe is about remembering who you are in the dizzying world of fame and celebrity, told by an international influencer,” the blurb read.

The 288-paged novel by Wurtzbach will retail for $16.99 (P930.79).
