“Forrest Gump” stars reunite with director, writer for new film “Here”

by RepublicAsia

“FORREST Gump” co-stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright were reunited with the 1994 Oscar-winning film’s director Robert Zemeckis and writer Eric Roth after 30 years for the new movie “Here,” which makes use of de-aging technology.

According to Sony’s official press release, it is “an original film about multiple families and a special place they inhabit.” The film is set to feature different generations with the trailer briefly showcasing a prehistoric setting, meant to highlight “the human experience in its purest form.”

Vanity Fair, in their exclusive first look, said that the entire movie takes place in a fixed point of view from start to finish. “The single perspective never changes, but everything around it does,” Zemeckis said.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed last year that the studio behind “Here” made use of the AI-generative tool Metaphysic Live to be able to tell a story that spans an entire lifetime. In the same article, Zemeckis said, “With ‘Here,’ the film simply wouldn’t work without our actors seamlessly transforming into younger versions of themselves.”

“Here” is based on a 2014 graphic novel by Richard McGuire. His website defines it as “an artist book disguised as a graphic novel about one location over time.”

The forced single perspective in the film is meant to mirror the source material’s creative style wherein multiple square panels are drawn on top of a single rectangular one, featuring several situations and instances in a single setting separated only by time.

According to an exhibition at The Morgan Library & Museum for McGuire’s graphic novel, the book was regarded as a “transformative achievement in the art of graphic narrative” due to its “depths in style, historical scope, and emotional range.”

Zemeckis started production in 2022, co-writing with Roth. This marked the first time in 30 years since “Forrest Gump” for Hanks and Wright to co-star in another love story; however, this is only one of several Zemeckis films where Hanks starred in, including “Cast Away” (2000), “The Polar Express” (2004), “The Walk” (2015), and “Finch” (2021).

Other co-stars featured in the film include Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Paul Bettany, “Yellowstone’s” Kelly Reilly, and “Downtown Abbey’s” Michelle Dockery. According to Sony Pictures Entertainment, the film is set for a wide release on November 15.
