Fans intrigued about Coldplay’s “new era” after socmed photo

by RepublicAsia

BRITISH band Coldplay sent fans into a frenzy after changing the display photo across their social media accounts on Friday, May 24.

The band’s new display photo showed the different phases of the moon, each colored with a gradient of violet to cyan for waxing crescent, green to yellow for the full moon, and orange to pink for waning crescent and a sky blue background color.

Coldplay fans from different countries expressed their theories about the band’s new photo through their Facebook page, saying it was either part of their upcoming concerts or a new album.

“Is this going to be part of your upcoming concerts?? 😱” a user guessed.

“Is something brewing?!?!? 🙌🏽👀🫣” another one speculated.

Some fans even went as far as naming the hypothetical upcoming album, “Moon Music.”

Before the display photo change, Coldplay fans also noticed that some of the band’s music canvas on streaming platform Spotify has a cameo of a moon.

But as of this writing, the band has not released any statement about the display photo and the context behind the phases of the moons colored in varying gradients.

Back in 2021, Coldplay announced their world tour as part of their ninth studio album “Music of the Spheres” via an Instagram post.

“Playing live and finding connection with people is ultimately why we exist as a band. We’ve been planning this tour for years, and we’re super excited to play songs from across our whole time together,” said the band at the time.

Coldplay also said they wanted to promote sustainability in their world tour.

“At the same time, we’re very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis. So we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward,” the band wrote.

Coldplay’s ninth studio album consisted of 12 tracks with songs in collaboration with K-pop group BTS, American singer-songwriter Selena Gomez, English singer-songwriter Jacob Collier, and American R&B duo We are KING. The song “My Universe” with BTS debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In a 2021 interview with BBC Radio 2, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin revealed that after their 12th studio album that would probably be released in 2025, the group would no longer make new music and instead focus on touring and collaborations.

“Our last proper record will come out in 2025, and after that I think we will only tour,” said Martin.

“And maybe we’ll do some collaborative things but the Coldplay catalogue, as it were, finishes then,” he added.

Coldplay is known for their hits “Yellow” (2000)”, “The Scientist” (2002), “Fix You” (2005), and “Viva La Vida” (2008).
