EXO’s Baekhyun, GOT7’s Youngjae to visit PH for solo concerts

by Joanna Deala

IT’S another year and another era for K-pop “tingi” concerts.

“Tingi” refers to Filipinos’ practice of buying goods in small amounts, but in the K-pop world, this could imply a member of a certain group holding his or her solo event.

It’s only January and yet the number of South Korean artists heading to the Philippines is growing, with Baekhyun of EXO and Youngjae of GOT7 as the latest additions.

The two K-pop idols are set to perform in Manila for their solo concerts. Here’s what we know about their upcoming events:

Youngjae’s “Inside Out”

It was only last week when boy group GOT7 completed its “tingi” version, with singer-songwriter Mark Tuan staging the Manila leg of his “The Other Side” Asia tour.

But the group is about to begin its 2024 “tingi” edition as Youngjae will be returning to the country for his “Inside Out” concert tour.

On Monday, GOT7’s vocalist announced on Instagram that the Manila stop of the musical event will be held on February 24 at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City.

The Asia tour will kick off in Taipei on February 18 and will continue in Thailand on February 16 and 17.

Details about the concert such as ticket prices have yet to be revealed.

Youngjae made a solo comeback in October 2023 with the release of his first full-length album “Do It.” He released his first extended play (EP) “Colors from Ars” in 2021, followed by “Sugar” in 2022.

His last visit in the country was in 2022 for his “Sugar” fan-sign event in June and for the concert festival “K-pop Masterz Ep. 2” in September, where he was joined with boy groups ATEEZ and iKON.

Debuting in 2014, the seven members of GOT7 are focusing on their solo careers since their departure from JYP Entertainment in 2021. Two of their members, Jay B and Jinyoung, are fulfilling their mandatory military duties.

Each of them has signed with different agencies for their solo activities.

GOT7 recently celebrated their 10th anniversary as a group on January 16.

Baekhyun’s “LONSDALEITE”

Also on Monday, concert promoter Wilbros Live announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Baekhyun will embark on a concert tour in Asia, including in the Philippines.

Titled “LONSDALEITE,” his solo concert in the country will be held on April 23 at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

This will be Baekhyun’s live solo concert since his debut in EXO in 2012 and his first in three years, following his online concert “BAEKHYUN: LIGHT” in 2021.

His concert tour will commence in Singapore on March 28, followed by shows in Ho Chi Minh, Taipei, Jakarta, Hong Kong and Bangkok.

As of writing, details of the ticket prices and selling date have yet to be announced.

Baekhyun visited the Philippines in June 2023 for “Overpass: K-pop Music Concert,” along with Korean soloists Jeon Somi and B.I.

The EXO vocalist made his solo debut in 2019 with his EP “City Lights,” which included his hit songs “UN Village” and “Betcha.” His latest EP was “Bambi” in 2021.

Baekhyun made headlines early this month with the launch of his independent label INB100. His fellow EXO members Xiumin and Chen also signed with the outfit.

According to Soompi, UNB100 will manage the individual and unit activities of the three EXO members, who are also known as EXO-CBX. SM Entertainment will still handle their group activities as EXO.

EXO returned to the K-pop scene with the July 2023 release of its seventh full-length album “Exist.”

While some members are pursuing their solo careers, Kai and Sehun are serving in the military.
