Ecuador’s Andrea Aguilera wins Miss Supranational 2023; PH bet Pauline Amelinckx is 1st runner-up

by Izel Abanilla

THE world has a new queen.

Ecuador’s Miss Andrea Aguilera is the new Miss Supranational 2023 while Philippines’ Pauline Amelinckx nearly won, placing as first runner-up in the competition held at the Strzelecki Park Amphitheater in Nowy Sacz, Poland on July 14 (July 15 in Manila).

Aguilera succeeded last year’s winner South Africa’s Lalela Mswane and bested out 64 other crown hopefuls.

Following Amelinckx is Brazil’s Sancler Frantz Konzen. Emma Rose Collingridge from the United Kingdom was third runner-up, while Ngan Dang Thanh from Vietnam completed the Top 5 as the fourth runner-up.

Winning answer

As with any pageant, the question and answer portion is the most awaited and the most dreadful moment for any candidate.

The Top 5 candidates were asked only one question: “What makes for a good brand ambassador for this organization?”

Ecuador expressed her intention to create a foundation that would help single mothers seek employment. She also talked about her dream to earn a medical degree using her own funds.

Andrea Aguilera: “Oh my god. For me, work with Miss Supranational Organization would be the greatest honor of my life. I could travel around the world carrying its legacy. I would really love to start my own foundation to help single moms to find employment. But one of the most important things for me, the Miss Supranational platform, makes me accomplish one of the most, the biggest dreams of my life. This is studying medicine by my own funds, become a doctor, and continue helping people. Thank you very much.”

Meanwhile, Amelinckx highlighted that the organization’s brand ambassador should be someone who can call for unity and transcend borders and bring nations together.

“It would be dedication. Dedication to this journey, dedication to the people who have brought her up to this journey, and dedication of course with the organization that she’ll end up working with. This is such a beautiful experience. And she has to be someone who will bring people together. Someone who knows that this is not a one-woman journey. We all have our differences, but we also realize that we have so much in common. And we are now gathered here on this stage transcending our own borders, bringing nations together,” she said.

Fans react

Meanwhile, enraged Pinoy fans made it clear that they really believe Amelinckx should have gotten the title.

On Twitter, various reactions to Amelinckx’s fate surfaced, mostly saying the crown should have been won by the Philippines.

Making PH proud

Amelinckx gave a powerhouse performance throughout the pageant and successfully showcased world-class Filipina beauty.

Filipinos from all over the world cheered as she made it to the top 5, nearly winning the country’s second Supranational crown after Mutya Datul in 2013.

For the national costume round, the Boholana beauty channeled fierceness as she wore a classic fiery red Filipiniana dress by designer Ehrran Montoya.

During the swimsuit competition, Amelinckx rocked the runway in her tropical design bikini by Relleciga Polska.

During the evening gown competition, Amelinckx was a sight to behold in a stunning silver number by Louis Pangilinan.
