E-Gilas Pilipinas, unblemished in Southeast Asia qualifiers

by Bryan Gadingan

E-GILAS Pilipinas, the NBA 2K national team, maintains its pristine record to finish the first round of eFIBA Season 2 Southeast Asia qualifications, breaking the world record for most points in their last game against India.

Clark Banzon, Isaiah Alindada, Kenneth Gutierrez, Julian Mallillin, Prich Diez, and Coach Nite Alparas make up the Philippine NBA 2K team.

Their impeccable campaign began with a 33-29 victory over Indonesia, followed by three more victories of 69-30 over Singapore, 58-42 over Mongolia, and a record-breaking 221-52 victory over India to end the first round of Southeast Asian qualifiers.

E-Gilas coach Nite Alparas stated in an interview with ABS-CBN that the players are pleased with the team’s current position in the qualifiers.

However, the club is preparing for round 2 improvements and intends to improve on ball movement.

“For round 2, ine-expect din namin na may mga adjustments silang gagawin,” Alparas said in a statement. “Naka-ready naman tayo at siguro kailangan din mas magandang ball movement pa para sa team.”

“Nakikita namin Singapore and Indonesia talagang gusto din manalo. Kaya hindi din kami tumitigil sa training para magawa namin yung best namin sa round 2,” Alparas remarked.

Clark Banzon, an E-Gilas player, believes that the team still has a lot of things to work on despite finishing the qualifications with a remarkable placing.

The Philippines is one of 61 nations competing in eFIBA’s second season, and one of five teams from Southeast Asia. The teams are contending for a spot in the World Finals, which will be held later this year in Elmia, Jönköping, Sweden.

In eFIBA Season 1, the Philippines held the Southeast Asian regional title. The team is hoping to reign once more and secure a position on the greatest stage.
