Ateneo de Manila University led four Philippine universities that made it to the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings this year.

Ateneo placed 84th in its debut appearance on the list and was the only Philippine university to clinch a spot in the Top 100.

The University of the Philippines settled in the 201-250 bracket, down from 129th place in 2022.

De La Salle University slipped to the 501–600 bracket, compared to its 401–500 finish last year.

Mapua University was ranked 601+.

According to the UK-based magazine, the performance indicators are broken down into five categories: teaching (the learning environment); research (volume, income and reputation); citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer).

“We are honored to enter Times Higher Education’s Asia rankings for the first time, especially being ranked in the top 100,” said Ateneo de Manila president Fr Roberto Yap SJ.

“This feat is the product of years of hard work of the entire community — from faculty and researchers, to staff, professionals, and administrators, to our students,” Yap said.

“This only encourages us to further work on our shared mission to engage with society to affect positive change in the world.”

China’s Tsinghua University topped the rankings this year. The National University of Singapore was the highest-ranked Southeast Asian institution, placing third.
