Are you ready for “Mamma Mia 3”?

by RepublicAsia

“MAMMA Mia: Here We Go Again” co-creator and producer Judy Craymer and director Ol Parker have just confirmed plans for “Mamma Mia 3.”

In an interview with Deadline, Craymer teased the audience about the third film and the return of three-time Oscar-winning star Meryl Streep.

“Judy Craymer, the genius producer behind the musical and the first two films, always plans for it to be a trilogy. That’s all I can say… I know that there is a hunger for a third, and I know that she has a plan. Wouldn’t it be lovely?” Parker explained.

Streep revealed that there was an “imminent” meeting on proposals for her return to the musical romcom film.

“Of course, I want to do it. I think folks love it,” she said.

Streep is open to a comeback but wants to hear how Cramer would bring back her character, Donna, who had died in the 2018 sequel “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.”

“I don’t know how they’re going to do it. They have an idea. I haven’t heard it yet, but it’s in [my diary] and I’m going to hear about it pretty soon,” she added.

In an interview with Vogue in 2023, Streep said that she was game.

“I’m up for anything…I told Judy (the producer) if she could figure out a way to reincarnate Donna, I’m into that. Or it could be like in one of those soap operas where Donna comes back and reveals it was really her twin sister that died.”

“Mamma Mia” was first released in 2008, followed by both prequel and sequel, “Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!” in 2018.

The jukebox musical was based on the song by Swedish group ABBA and adapted into a film. The story of “Mamma Mia!” revolves around Sophie Sheridan (Amanda Seyfried), a young bride-to-be who invites three men, in the hopes that one of them is her biological father. The names were based on the diary of her mother Donna (Streep).
